This week is British Science Week. As part of the theme ‘Our Diverse Planet’, Angel Class have been exploring how humans and animals protect themselves. We talked about how viruses affect our bodies and how we can help defend ourselves through hand washing and avoiding touching our faces. We then explored how animal skins help them to camouflage, blending into their environment so predators don’t find them easily. Finally, we hid some animals around our environment for preschool to find during their transition visit.

Here we are with Jeff the fireman from Newport. He came to give us a safety talk about fire. He told us about smoke alarms and how important they are. We watched a safety video and played some fun games about fire equipment. Thank you Jeff for a fun safety talk.

This week, we have focused out literacy learning around Remembrance Day. The children have studied the poem ‘Flanders Field’ and have written their own response poems to those who lost their lives. We were also presented with a fantastic opportunity and as a class we got to watch an “In The Net” production play. This play built on the children’s growing knowledge of internet safety whilst ensuring it was fun and interactive.

Welcome back to the second half of the spring term. Our topic this term and next is, The First World War. We will be studying the wonderfrul novel 'War Horse' and producing a variety of writing, to inform, entertain and describe what happened during this horrific war. This is is busy term for Year 6, as we only have a few weeks before our annual standard assessments. We also have some fun things planned, such as UKSA sailing at the end of March. Mrs Wilkinson :)
